A mental health app, built from the idea up

BOmind is a mental health app people can use on their own, with a therapist they can book and meet by video without leaving it. We joined before there was a product or a spec, helped shape what it would become, and we are still building it today.

The starting point

The engagement started before the product did

BOmind did not exist when we came in. There was an idea about improving access to mental health support in Slovenia, but no product, no spec and no designs to build against.

So the first work was defining what the product should be. We worked through the scope, designed the experience and mapped out what it would take to support both people using the app on their own and therapists working with them.

What we built

One platform for people and therapists

The app combines diaries, mood check-ins, guided psychological challenges and a library of podcasts, articles and breathing, relaxation and mindfulness exercises. It is built with React Native and Expo, while the therapist web app runs from the same codebase so one team can develop and maintain both.

Booking happens inside the app. A therapist publishes their weekly availability, a client picks a slot and pays through Stripe, and both sides get the appointment, reminders and a private message thread. When it is time for the session, the video call opens in the same place, on the phone or in the therapist’s browser.

Diary entries and messages between a client and their therapist are encrypted field by field in the database, keeping their contents unreadable to anyone accessing the underlying tables directly.

The outcome

Live in production, and still evolving

BOmind has been live since July 2024, and we are still working on it. The 116,000+ logged entries reflect people returning to the product for mood check-ins, guided challenges and other activities over time.

Since launch, the product has continued to evolve around what users and therapists need, including subscriptions and promo codes, appointment reminders and the therapist web app.
